A yacht basin, a large building volume, 200 waterfront lots, long avenues and a golf course are the ingredients for a new town in a polder in Friesland. The basis for the structure of the new town is formed by the typical strip parcelling, the openness of the polder and the marginally present alder hedges. The idea to build a new town here is not an isolated initiative but is linked to a number of other problems in the area that need to be solved. Strootman made, in cooperation with Laagland’ advies, a design study on the possibilities for a new residential landscape.
The existing landscape forms the basis for the design of the new town. This landscape will be reinvigorated by the planting of a new network of alder hedges combined with new cycle- and footpaths. Avenues and hedges ensure that the original view lines remain and are reinforced.
Approximately 100 apartments will be built in the centre of the new town around a new yacht basin. Adjacent to this, approximately 200 lots between 2.000 m2 and 5.000 m2 are spread in the neighbouring area. Lakes and ponds will be dug in and around the centre of the new town. Wide (water) blocks guarantee relaxed living areas. Every water body will have an island with a villa. Some water bodies are only reachable by boat; others will be filled with water lilies.
As a whole, the new town and its surrounding, will play a major role in regional water conservation.
