On the edge of the village of Ugchelen, 10 to 15 new dwellings are to be built on plots of approximately 1,000 m2. This assignment has been seized as an opportunity to create a beautiful entrance to Ugchelen. The dwellings are situated around a rectangular meadow that is diagonally intersected by the existing access road to the village. A trim hedge and a rectangular border of Japanese cherry trees are planted around the meadow to frame and accentuate its shape. Sheep graze in the meadow. For two weeks a year when the cherry trees are in blossom, the entrance is a spectacular feast for the eye.

As in the case of the Vondelpark in Amsterdam, the financing of the greenery is directly linked with the construction of dwellings around it. The dwellings comply with a number of strict urban development guidelines regarding vegetation, building volume, use of materials, colour, dimensions, roof slope and ridge height. The residents of the meticulously detailed dwellings have been given the commendable obligation to plant at least one large tree in their front garden to reinforce the idea of living on the edge of a wood. Several large trees will also be planted in their back garden to form a background to the dwellings when seen from the access road.
