The villages that form the local authority of Wijdemeren are situated in a remarkable landscape. The key assignment for the local authority is to find a balance between the valuable landscape and present-day dynamism. It has commissioned Strootman to draw up a coherent vision for its entire territory. This covers both the vision of the urban development and landscape qualities, of qualities such as those connected with water, cultural history, nature, the environment, traffic and transport, and the vision of economy, housing and recreation. The vision gives direction to the desired spatial qualities of Wijdemeren and makes it immediately clear whether certain initiatives fit in there.

On the basis of an analysis of the developmental history and present-day landscape, strong and weak points emerge that lead to challenges for the Wijdemeren local authority. They are translated in terms of a desirable spatial structure for Wijdemeren, including all the desirable spatial developments. This spatial structure can be implemented on the long term (10-40 years).

The proposals are also based on the contribution of the residents of Wijdemeren in four inspiration evenings. A list is provided of the projects proposed in the structural vision. On the basis of this list, a spatial agenda can be drawn up for the implementation of projects in Wijdemeren.
