Mill South spatial exploration

The development of an area like Mill South calls for a customised approach. Our spatial exploration has pinpointed a number of search locations in Mill South, for which building densities are given on the basis of references. These in turn form the basis for a variation in density.

Mill is a beautiful village in a remarkable landscape and has a lot to offer in the field of tourism. Besides a strong touristic and recreational ambition, the local authority also has the ambition of creating unusual, green residential environments with a rural character to distinguish itself from other villages in the surrounding countryside.

One of the new residential environments, designed by Strootman and FARO, is being implemented in ‘t Kavelt. ‘t Kavelt is surrounded by locations that can be used for the development of unusual residential environments. A spatial exploration has been drawn up for this area – Mill South – that investigates how the area could be developed to achieve more unity, coherence and quality. In addition, the local authority wants to be inspired for how to create unusual residential environments on the possible locations that will contribute to the image of Mill as a rural and hospitable village.

The planning area can be roughly divided into three main functions: commercial, residential, and agrarian/woodland. These main functions are present to some extent in a mixed form in the fringes between the different zones. That mixture is one of the causes of the considerable fragmentation, but at the same time it forms a quality and creates informality and a certain charming untidiness.

The development of an area like Mill South calls for a customised approach and a vision for the whole territory. The spatial exploration has pinpointed a number of search locations in Mill South, for which building densities are given on the basis of references. These in turn form the basis for a variation in density that serves as input for a financial scrutiny by the local authority.
